Charming drawbridges dot North Holland’s landscape, perfect entries into enchanting villages built on water. I am visually attracted to bridges because they break up the picture plane in ways that one doesn’t ordinarily find in landscape motifs. As a story-telling motif, bridges offer many possibilities.
